Crystal here! I’ve
sewn up a look to link up for Project Run & Play Week 2. This week’s theme is Spring Break. The competitors and sew-alongers were
challenged to sew up a look based on their favorite vacation spot. Since “Chocolate Island” only exists in my
wildest PMS dreams, I had to choose something else. My absolute FAVORITE vacation ever was a trip
I took to Maui. I went on my first date
with my now husband and really just spent some time relaxing and enjoying
Mother Nature. The sunsets are the best
time of day hands-down. The color of the
sky is just gorgeous. It’s almost like
the Day is going out with a bang- the most amazingly beautiful and tranquil
light show you’ll ever see. It’s just like the things you’ve seen on a post card.
So I call this look “Postcard Sunset”.
When I can’t get to Maui (it’s been 11 years), Southern
California will do. It has beaches and
sunsets. I just ignore the hobos and
hipsters which sometimes are interchangeable in appearance. This dress looks past all of that and just concentrates on pretty things.
I had this pretty awesome fabric just sitting around waiting
for me to effing use it, but it was missing something. Palm Tree Silhouettes! That’s one of the most beautiful parts of a
sunset- nature’s silhouettes! I’m a crap artist, but I did my best and I
think I deserve a trip to Chocolate Island for my efforts. Still not real, huh? Blast!
I used the Saffron Twirl Dress by Paisley Roots (one of my
FAVORITE patterns and I’m not just saying that because the designer is my bud)
to make this dress. I just love the fit,
the design and the way it lends itself to creativity.
The best part is the back
And because it’s the Saffron TWIRL dress, this had to happen
So this is my dress.
I’ll have to keep looking at it for now because the closest thing I have
to the tropics right now is the palm trees in my neighbor’s back yard. :::SIGH:::

I recognised the pattern at first sight, it is in fact wonderful. You made a great use of your fabric, those vibrant colours are a must have in a little girl's wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with those palm trees. Lovely dress!
ReplyDeleteFabulous! Totally makes me think of sunsets back home, where I grew up, in sunny southern california.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Love the colour of the fabric combined with the palm trees!
ReplyDeleteI would've never guessed you painted the trees! Love them!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you made the silhouettes yourself. I had no idea until I read it.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see you join us this week at the Inspire Us Thursdays! link party.
DeleteThe colors are gorgeous and I love that pattern. You did a wonderful job on the trees.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I'm surprised you didn't save this for next weeks challenge of making your own fabric. It fits both challenges!
ReplyDeleteI thought the same as above commenter, you could have used this for next week! So you must have something really special planned because this is top notch!
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you!!! I actually almost kicked myself in the behind for not waiting until next week, but I have short legs and they couldn't reach. I figured it out, though and I hope you all like it!
